Action Types Reference

Verify if a user has taken any action onchain or offchain

User Identity & Proof of Humanity

Verify user connections and on-platform achievements.

ENS Imported

What it does: Verifies a user has connected an ENS name to their Layer3 profile.

Best for: Building crypto-native communities. Quality user filtering. Pre-qualifying engaged Ethereum users

Usage tips: Place early in activation sequences as a simple qualifier. Combine with other identity verifiers for stronger authentication. Great filter for ethereum-focused campaigns. Can indicate higher-value wallets/users.

Gitcoin Passport Score

What it does: Verifies a user's Gitcoin Passport score.

Best for: Filtering for high-quality participants, preventing sybil.

Usage tip: Set score threshold based on your needs. Higher for exclusive drops, lower for broader participation.

CUBEs Minted

What it does: Checks how many CUBEs a user has minted (optionally on specific chains).

Best for: Rewarding platform activity, creating loyalty tiers.

Usage tip: Great for targeting/segmenting experienced Layer3 users by network, or creating exclusive activations. E.g. must have 50 CUBEs on OP Mainnet to participate.

Social Connections

What it does: Verifies user has connected accounts (Twitter, Discord, Telegram, Email, Github).

Best for: Building verified community lists, ensuring real users.

Usage tip: Use in early activation steps to build quality user data.

Informational

Share knowledge and educate users.

Info Cards

What it does: Displays information, images, and links to users.

Best for: Product education, feature announcements, protocol explanations.

Usage tip: Keep content concise and include visual elements when possible. If you use visual elements, try adding only one or two lines of text to ensure everything displays properly on smaller screens.

Social Engagement

Build community presence.

Join Telegram Group

What it does: Verifies that a user has joined your specified Telegram group and connected their Telegram account to Layer3.

Best for: Growing Telegram communities. Enabling direct user communication. Creating active discussion channels. Time-sensitive announcements

Usage tip: Add a "Telegram Connected" step before this. Place early in activation sequences to maintain engagement throughout the campaign. Add Info Card before to explain group value and guidelines.

Important: Add the Layer3 bot to your Telegram server. This is how how we'll verify if users actually joined: https://t.me/Layer3Bot?startgroup=true

Join Discord Server

What it does: Verifies that a user has joined your specified Discord server and connected their Discord account to Layer3.

Best for: Building long-term communities. Creating role-based access. Supporting detailed discussions. Project governance participation

Usage tip: Add a "Discord Connected" step before this. Consider creating a dedicated channel for activation participants. Discord integration enables future role-gating and targeted campaigns.

Important: Add the Layer3 bot to your Discord server. This is how how we'll verify if users actually joined: https://discord.com/api/oauth2/authorize?client_id=942680509056692245&permissions=0&scope=bot

Quiz & Poll

Gather feedback and verify understanding.

Quiz

What it does: Tests user knowledge with multiple-choice questions.

Best for: Ensuring product understanding, educational campaigns.

Usage tip: Use after Info Cards to verify comprehension.

Polls

What it does: Gathers user opinions via multiple choice or open response.

Best for: Community feedback, governance participation.

Usage tip: Great for research and showing users their voice matters. Poll results can be exported.

Wallet Networks & Apps

Verify wallet connections and usage.

Specific Wallet Apps

What it does: Verifies use of particular wallet applications.

Best for: Wallet adoption campaigns, partner integrations.

Usage tip: Combine with educational content about wallet features.

Onchain Actions

Verify blockchain activity.

Advanced Onchain Action

What it does: Highly configurable, verifies any specified onchain action.

Best for: Engaging users with your protocol, proving usage.

Usage tip: Be specific about expected actions and test thoroughly.

Note: see Advanced Onchain Action Configuration for a detailed guide.

Interact with EVM Contract

What it does: Verifies that a user has interacted with a specific smart contract on any EVM chain. Can be configured to check for specific method calls and date ranges.

Best for: Verifying protocol usage. Tracking feature adoption. Validating governance participation. Proof of transaction history

Usage tip: Use the optional Method ID to verify specific actions (e.g., staking, voting) and From Date to focus on recent interactions. Always test the verification with your own wallet first since contract interactions can be complex.

Token/NFT Holdings

What it does: Verifies asset ownership or balances.

Best for: Token-gated content, holder rewards.

Usage tip: Consider minimum thresholds on Token holdings for deeper engagement.

Have POAP

What it does: Checks for specific POAP ownership.

Best for: Event attendance verification, exclusive content.

Usage tip: Great for post-event engagement campaigns.

Mint NFT

What it does: Verifies that a user has minted a specific NFT (ERC721 or ERC1155) from a null address. Automatically detects token type and handles ERC1155 token IDs.

Best for: NFT launch campaigns. Tracking mint participation. Primary market engagement. Community collector verification.

Usage tip: Great for NFT drops where you want to verify users minted directly rather than purchased secondary. For ERC1155s, specify token ID when campaign targets specific editions.

Token Transfers

What it does: Verifies specific token movements.

Best for: Participation in token/NFT sales, community contributions.

Usage tip: Always include clear instructions about amounts and addresses.

General Purpose

Utility actions for activation flow.

What it does: Guides a user to visit a site you specify

Best for: Driving traffic, documentation review.

Usage tip: Use for important resources or landing pages.

Complete Activation Dependency

What it does: Requires completion of another specified activation.

Best for: Creating activation sequences, progressive engagement.

Usage tip: Build knowledge or activity progressions.

Time Gate

What it does: Adds specified waiting period with countdown

Best for: Ensuring sustained engagement.

Usage tip: Use sparingly - only when a time delay adds value.

Custom API Integration

What it does: Enables custom verification of anything in your system via API.

Best for: Bespoke verification needs, special integrations, offchain actions you need to ensure the user has taken.

Usage tip: See Custom API Integration for a full setup guide.

Best Practices

Activation Design

  • Start with easier actions to build momentum

  • Mix action types to maintain engagement

  • Use Info Cards before complex actions

  • Keep total steps under 5 when possible

  • Design compelling incentives. Every Activation must have an incentive (token, points, NFT allowlist, raffle, etc.) to be approved. Use token rewards if the activation requires the user to transact onchain.

User Experience

  • Write clear, concise instructions

  • Provide context for why each action matters

  • Test activation flow before publishing

  • Consider mobile users in design
